Yes, as I recall HS2 (or would the Scottish extension have been HS4?) would have shaved 30 minutes off the fastest Glasgow to London journey. Not a game changer in itself.

That said of course, the wider benefits of building a separated long-distance high speed rail alignment are that you use that for your high speed services, freeing up the other, existing lines, for many many more regional services.
