I commute from ardrossan to Glasgow. I am also hybrid so half at home half in the office. The only issue is the trains can be somewhat unreliable. The commute itself is fine. Just pop some headphones in and read a book. I'd never live in the city again. It's so much more pleasant. Yeah ok sometimes the trains can be extremely busy and it's not the cheapest but I'm sure you would save money on rent/mortgage.
