So the area directly surrounding central station is a hellhole. Please don’t judge us based on that.

Assuming you’re coming into town after office hours? If that’s the case then there is little to none with regards to non-chain, localised retail. If you’re nerdy then Forbidden planet is open till 7 thurs- Sunday. It’s on Sauchiehall street (also a bit of a hole).

To get a feel for city centre, I’d from central to Buchanan street- there’s stores there but it’s all chains. Then I’d take a walk through George square to the merchant city which has some interesting buildings and a few good restaurant/bar options.

If you’re a music fan you might want to dodge that and go to King tuts Wah Wah hut for a pint. Nice and sleazy is also popular and a well known independent venue.

Truly, the city centre isn’t at its best at the moment and I’m finding more active and thriving independent venues in the west end and Southside but if you’re stuck for time that would probably be a bit of a push.
