| Comment | Firstly, sorry your family had to go through that. I left for a few years and came back in 2016. First thing I noticed was how many more homeless people were living on the streets in the city centre. Unfortunately, I don’t feel like the situation has improved on that front. I’ve been living in Shawlands since then and it feels a lot more gentrified now. Some places are still manky but I think it’s caused more my a select few who don’t care to pick up after themselves than it is to do with larger problems. Overall, I love living here and consider it a nice place to live. Crime (break ins etc) has been on the rise, I’ve noticed in the last year, probably directly correlating to the cost of living. I would say Shawlands is probably more ‘white’ than it was when you were last here but racism generally will not fly here. If anyone were to try it, I can guarantee they’ll be whispering under their breath, afraid that anyone else will hear them. You will get racists anywhere you go sadly, but by in large, you will always be welcome in Glasgow. |
