It's like how your name is decided when you're born. You're influenced by what team people around you support when you're wee. I don't really remember my dad pushing rangers on me when I was young, I was just Rangers by default because my cousins loved rangers and I looked up to them all.

I was quite Rangers daft for a while when I was wee during the club's "let's spunk lots of money on foreign players we can't actually afford" era so loved Michael Mols, Lorenzo Amorouso, Jörg Albertz, Arthur Numan and latterly Nacho Novo...

I think there was a big sense of pride about being a Rangers supporter then. I used to go to matches with my dad fairly regularly. But then came Manchester. I was 16 and went down with my mum and dad and we saw very quickly how sour the crowd turned and how they turned on each other, more crucially.

As I've got older I don't bother with Rangers anymore or following them really because the toxic element of the support puts me off. If anything the internet has made it worse and his stirred up old resentments.

Certainly when I was growing up, I don't remember hearing much about violence between Celtic and Rangers supporters. There would certainly be no riots in the street on old firm days.

Sure it was always a bitter rivalry but my parents had good friends who were Celtic supporters and it was never actually an issue.

My dad doesn't go to Ibrox anymore for the same reasons. He still loves Rangers but he's not in for all the sectarianism and hating people just because they support Celtic.

I'm getting married to someone who is a Hibee and our kids will, hopefully, land up being Hibs supporters if they're into football.
