I'm willing to assume you think it gets a bad name and find people welcoming because:
You stayed in a resort, lovely rented apartment or hotel, meaning you were holed away from general life in America/Florida.
Most people you spoke to were workers, paid to be nice to you.
You are white and speak English.
Last time I was in Florida I was 15, and even then I was hyperaware of the shithole beliefs there, like confederate flags dotted round and "you're in America, speak English" bumper stickers.
America is fucked but the tourists are hardly going to get a glimpse of that, walking about Disneyland haha. |
