Not a comedian but listen to a lot of comedy podcasts, and it's surprising how often they talk about how they got into comedy and the things you need to do for the first few years. In terms of where to start:

Start looking for open mic nights, either comedy ones or mixed. Obviously don't rock up to a poetry or musicians open mic haha. Some of the event websites are great, but when I want to find shows sometimes I find more success going on Facebook and Instagram and just writing "open mic, Glasgow" in the search bar.

Tbh mate, you might be best just sending a message to local comedians asking this question and acting for general advice on starting out. I get the impression that comedians want to help each other as much as they can, as long as you're no a wank.

Even though you never asked, some of the other stuff they say you should do starting out:

Record your sets as you play them, watch them back to find out where things went wrong and what can be improved.

Play as often as you can. It's hard to rise up in that industry, and you need to get yourself known quickly in the local circuit.

Stay after your set is finished to see how the other comedians do things. Start analysing their set rather than just listening. How they set up jokes, what gets the crowd going, even how they hold the mic.
