Been living here for 4 years. I have to say that I actually welcome some of the gentrification. I may not be a huge fan of the style they are using, but overall, you can't just continue keeping building from 1900 standing until they are completely derelict.

The Clyde waterfront on the south side has been rather hideous to look at for a while now, and seeing abandoned buildings that may just collapse in 20 years time, doesn't really make the best impression of a city, if you're rolling into Central.

I will agree, however, that maintaining a certain style for a city is important for its identity. A unique thing about Glasgow that I've noticed is "mini towers" on buildings. It adds a certain level of quirkiness that I've come to love about living here. I'll often tell people visiting to look up and look at the details on the buildings in the city centre. So I'm glad they didn't just steam roll everything in the 60s and refurbished/re-used most of the Victorian buildings.
