So in general, Scotland does not have the spending power that Luxembourg has. So straight away you have to temper your measure of success.

It’s relatively easy to set up a company but rent/rates is high and depending on the type of business- it can be hard to keep staff. If you treat them well you’re good but if it’s minimum wage you’re ensuring a constant revolving door of recruitment.

Sending things overseas is now extremely bureaucratic. The postal service was also hit by an issue this year which basically made international postage impossible so created more reliance on courier businesses.

The cost of living crisis in the UK is also colouring everything. Our energy bills are the highest in Europe despite our average earning power being relatively low. We are seeing lots of closures of small businesses.

It’s a tough market to break into. But if you have the £ to weather the storm it could be worth it.
