Comment | There's this tipping point every band's after, where the crowd stops being people you personally know/invite and starts being strangers, most bands will never get it, unless they're playing free gigs or covers in local pubs.

If you're wanting to just play in front of actual strangers I've always been a huge fan of The Box. You won't make a penny (Unless you put out a tip jar) but you'll get to actually perform live to a crowd (varies wildly how large) and not have to worry about dragging in friends.

DF can also be good once you get on their 'list' for support acts, but you need to play a regular gig their first and agree to a few shiters to stay on the list. |
