I've noticed this happening a lot more frequently, particularly at Anniesland Cross. People will drive through when there's obviously not enough room to clear the junction, then sit parallel to traffic as the lights change. It's as if they don't use their brains, they just think '**LIGHT GREEN, ME GO THROUGH NOW**'.
I'd be tempted to just walk over their bonnets in the case of your photo.
