Private hire fares are not regulated. They can be anything set by the company.
The act covers “taxi” fares which are specifically public hire vehicles you hail from the street.
The moment you engage with a booking office that becomes a private hire even if they dispatch a vehicle that would otherwise be available for public hire i.e hackney cab - which can engage in both public and private hire work.
Sometimes confusion stems from the fact that hackney cabs dispatched for private hire work often use the meter / regulated fare table for the private journey. Most likely for the sake of simplicity and consistency. |
