The reasons these studies offer vouchers is there are issues around offering cash, namely being seen as a ‘payment’, which if you’re on benefits should be declared and deducted from the money you receive.
Easier to offer vouchers in this case to protect participants from this faff.
There’s also other ethical issues around ‘paying’ participants in research and whether it introduces bias but I think vouchers and pay are often similar as one voucher can be used in loss of different places in person and online. |
