Sorry, I looked at the expiry date, not the date it was MOTd. I was referring to the 2021 MOT.

It hasn’t done many miles since then, but makes sense due to lockdown. Corrosion could have set it if the vehicle has sat a long time, but none of the earlier MOTs picked it up.

Again, not an expert, but it could be feasible that it was taken for MOT in 2021, and the garage were desperately trying to find something wrong with it to generate a bit of business post lockdown? I’m not saying it didn’t have problems, but you will get different opinions from different garages. If you put your V5 info in, it will tell you the garage that did the MOT - if it was Arnold Clark, then I would suggest they were more interested in selling a new car than doing a proper MOT.

It’s definitely worth getting a second opinion. Ask friends/family where they go and try to find a garage you can trust. Do not use Arnold Clark, Kwik Fit, etc. as they will always find something and charge you a lot of money to replace a whole part when a repair may be the most effective option.

You don’t need to service a car every 6 months unless you are doing mega miles. Every 12-15k miles or 12 months, whichever comes first, is fine. If your car still has the service book, it will tell you the service intervals the manufacturer recommends. I’d usually suggest getting a service at the same time as your annual MOT, but find a good garage to do it.
