Saw on another comment that you had taken it to a Mazda dealer - they will always be the most expensive option to do anything to your car. They are a sales garage first and foremost, and will mainly service new cars that are still under the 3 year warranty.

For a car of your age, an independent, trusted garage will be your best option.

Even with a brand new car, you don’t have to use the Mazda dealer - legally, you can use any garage you want, and as long as they use approved parts and follow their service recommendations, Mazda would have to honour your warranty (or at least this was the case pre-Brexit).

As someone else has said, if there is a small issue with your exhaust, Mazda will say it’s a whole new exhaust. Your local garage can repair the part that has a problem, if the rest of your exhaust is still perfectly fine.

Having said that, still get a second opinion and if you think you have been sold something with a major defect, you are within the 6 months to go back to Scottish Motor Services. You would, however, have to be able to prove the defect was there 5 months ago.

I am absolutely sure a good local garage can sort whatever is wrong at a much better price than Mazda have quoted you, and check the rest of the car over for your peace of mind.
