Round the cowal peninsula is absolutely gorgeous and generally less crowded once you come off the a83. You can drive down to one of the most beautiful spots for a pub at Otter Ferry where they often have stuff going on. I cycle round that way regularly and have happened upon hidden we gigs with a real community feel. Then round to Tighnabruaich before choosing between your return journey via Dunoon or across from Colintraive for a wee tour round Bute with gorgeous sands, beaches and coves.
All round that way there are ruined castles, forest walks, standing stones and more. It really is one of the truly undiscovered gems of Scotland... I actually feel guilty bringing attention to it in case everyone finally catches on.
