I've recently got into photography. Same as you, did loads of mobile photography on my iPhone but wanted to get the proper kit. Bought myself a nice Canon R7 camera, really enjoying it. My dad's into it too and has the same camera (recommended me it) so he's been teaching me all the tricks although I did do a photography course in college (I failed it but only because I managed to lose my coursework book on hand-in day 🤣)

To be honest best advice I can give is to watch YouTube videos to learn the basics (there's definitely one about your camera on there) and the settings. Get yourself into manual mode (or aperture/shutter speed priority mode at the least which is semi-automatic) and learn about how aperture, shutter speed and ISO work.

Just go out and find things to shoot and learn on the field. Unfortunately I don't drive but if I did there's loads of places to go by car but the train would help too. It's a bit sketchy shooting around the centre of Glasgow as it's sketchy at the best of times but the west-end isn't too bad and around the Cylde/Finnieston area. Any local parks are usually good too and folk don't mind people with cameras around there. Could get the train out to Helensburgh or Balloch, been to Largs which was decent enough too. Edinburgh is decent too and was one of the first places I went with my camera although it was January and the weather was shit so didn't spend too long - full of tourists so you won't look out of place either.

Depends what photography you're really into though. Street photography, urban exploration, portrait, landscape etc. etc.
