Wasn't exactly left "high and dry", more "high and wet", but I could tell you "hilarious" stories about:

1. The roofer who didn't know how to lay felt waterproofing
1. The same roofer who couldn't put ridge tiles back like they should be
1. The plumber who thought water can run uphill
1. The same plumber who didn't know the difference between hot and cold pipes
1. The same plumber one more who didn't think waste pipes need glued
1. The same plumber one more time who didn't know how to cut floorboards at the joists
1. The plumber having an encore by not knowing how to affix external pipework
1. The project manager who thought we accepts stairs made from parts in completely different styles
1. The same project manager who had all the floors laid and walls built *then* let his senior plumber (the competent one) know about the job, meaning it all needed ripped up/out
1. Etc

This was one project with one company! They did (at least) fix basically everything without quibble, including remaking an entire ceiling that was destroyed by their fuckwit of a plumber.
