Bute. Train from Central to Wemyss Bay, onto the ferry to Rothesay, whole journey is under 2 hours. If it's a nice day, I go to Ettrick Bay - not the biggest beach in the world but really lovely and peaceful. 15 minutes on the bus or about an hour and a half's wander (longer if you stop by the disused church, the standing stones, etc on the way)
