There seems to be an assumption by many commenters here that higher socio-economic catchment area= better school to work in, but in my experience that is just not the case.

I've worked at "top" East ren schools and some of the lowest attaining schools in the west of Scotland, and I've found that kids in lower socio-economic areas tend to be more appreciative and generally respectful of your position as a teacher.

Likewise, parents tend to be more supportive and trusting of your professional opinion. Obviously if there isn't an effective behavioural policy in place then this will cause issues, but that's the case in all schools. In fact, in schools with the most challenging behaviour you find that the staff work far more collaboratively and are much more supportive towards each other as opposed to the silo working/empire building you find in many high performing attainment schools.

Finding a good school to work in is far more complex than just looking at catchment areas.
