They've had on-street bins for "backcourt" waste in parts of Shawlands for ages. It's a PITA.

They block the pavement to the point it's one person at a time, they stink, they are often overflowing and have more rubbish stacked up beside them.

Utter farce.

I have seen such things work in other (non-UK) cities and it works well. But they have many more bins and *actual* dedicated spaces for them that don't impede people.

Personally I like the Amsterdam ones where the actual bin is underground and gets hoiked out when it needs emptied.

Disney is even better, but we're not getting tunnels to suck away all the rubbish any time soon.
