I had a big bins on the corner of the street when I lived in Cambuslang. This is how it worked in practice:

My bins life cycle:
- bins empty
- someone places something next to it (a small box for example).
- bin men use this as excuse to NOT empty the bin (they say they have no access, and when challenged about it become aggressive and abuse you).
- bins get full.
- people start putting their rubbish next to them (as there is no other option, obviously)
- piles of bin bags amass around the bin
- bin men do not empty ANY bins, saying they have no access
- everyone see it as a dump and starts placing their bulk items and other shit there
- rats and seagull fiesta, rotting food spread across the pavement and halfway around the street, terrible smell in the summer (bins happens to be under my window)
- everyone tries to have it cleared, council and the landlord both say it's not their job
- somebody finally uses his or her private contacts in the council, council sends someone to roughly clear it (they take big items, rotting food on the ground stays as it were).
- back to square one.

Who wants to bet that it will be the same in Glasgow?
