Comment | Thats not £20 in their pocket though is it. They need to pay for a vehicle, fuel, insurance, fees to the owners association, tax, national insurance, maintenance amongst other misc expenses like cleaning, uniform etc and I’m sure lots of other little things I wouldn’t even think about as an outsider. They could have waited around for an hour to get your 5 min motorway run. They are self employed too so holidays are unpaid but the finance on their motor doesn’t stop. It’s like when you go to a restaurant and pay £50 for food that costs less than £5. The restaurant needs to keep the lights on and pay the staff cooking and serving you. When people hit out with patter like this it just shows how clueless they are about operating a business. If you think taxi drivers are getting rich of your £20, you are dreaming. I’m sure many of them make a decent living by grafting but they are hardly living in mansions. If it was as easy as you make it out to be they’d work a couple of hours and go home. Most of them work 10-12 hour shifts. (A 12 hour shift would have half the weirdos on this sub crying on r/antiwork about their tory boss enforcing slave labour.) My company has an account with Glasgow Taxis so I am interacting with the drivers on a daily basis. Yet to hear any of them complain that they missed the Monaco GP because the Gulfstream Jet was off the road. Every single taxi driver is their own small business so when you use them you are supporting small local businesses. |
