You've missed the point entirely. You only see the parts of union activity that get reported in the press which is when negotiations get to a point where strikes are inevitable. My employer doesn't recognise our industry union so we are currently undergoing a company wide recruitment drive to be recognised. Last year, when the cost of living crisis was really starting to become an issue, my employer hadn't even mentioned the idea of a cost of living rise. So a massive number of us signed an open letter calling for a pay increase.

Management gave us less than what we called for but the point is we still got something more than we would have gotten by a couple of people going to management and saying they needed a pay rise. You achieve more collectively than you do on your own.
