so rather than say "this is a good idea because......." i actually want to say why this kind of development is important right now.

right now in glasgow, many people are having trouble surviving/affording food, we are in a recession and it's looking to get worse before it gets better. even a cheap car can cost £2000+ per year in things like insurance, tax, mot, repairs, parking and petrol. if you only make £1000 a month (basically what someone on esa and pip gets per month) are you really going to want to spend 1/6th of your money on transport? fuck no. i have 3 bikes and after the initial building of them, i only spend £300 a year on all of them combined. even a decent e-bike is still less than what you'd spend a year on car costs.

i think this should be taken into consideration when we talk about transport. many people could benefit from active transit (including drivers) especially those that might not have the greatest social mobility due to finances. when you build infrastructure for people and not their cars, you're sending a message of "hey, there's no shame in walking/riding your bike" and it gets those people out and about and bettering themselves.
