You can totally donate them to a charity shop, as long as they're clean. Put the stuff in a bag, put a label on it, or hand it to a member of staff and tell them they're clean items and could they take them for recycling.

The shop will put it in their recycling crates which still get them some money. Charity shops send unsellable stuff to recycling companies and get some money by weight.
