Comment | It sounds like a joke but live traffic management systems have been tested and are probably the future for large urban areas. Something like a satnav app but everyone has to use it, it simultaneously knows where everyone is and where they're going and can use algorithms to adjust routes. Send 70% of traffic down the main routes and divert the rest down less used routes, balancing traffic. Done well it could theoretically make a huge difference to rush hour congestion.

That being said, the policy isn't to make driving easier, it's to encourage people out of their cars, so I expect that rush hour traffic is a feature rather than a bug at this point. |
