Had an interview for a customer-facing job in an archive. Didn't get it because I was 'too interested in the archive side' and I 'didn't have enough customer service experience. Perhaps I should get work in a shop or a bar or volunteer in a shop in order to strengthen that side of my employability'.

My current job involves working with customers and my 16 years in the workforce includes working in shops, bars, cinemas and theatres alongside a 12 year association with a certain charity shop.

I was also told that I answered questions too quickly. I guess that's my fault for spending the week practicing for the interview and getting my answers ready in advance.

How do you actually get jobs these days? Being interested in the area, having the rel bant experience and being prepared for the interview clearly isn't cutting it.
