I have had a consultation at both clinics but didn't go ahead with the procedure. Optimax said my prescription was too bad for LASIK whereas Optical express were super keen on doing surgery 'next week'. In neither places I actually spoke to surgeons directly; at the time, at optimax you would get a consultation after you prepay for the procedure and optical express only offered consultation at an additional price, meaning that you would go into surgery without ophthalmologist actually examining you (this was over 5 years ago, so may have changed). Optimax seemed a lot more professional and knowledgeable, whereas at optical express I was examined by multiple people some of which had no idea that I couldn't actually walk around without glasses and this was after they measured my prescription. That and the super pushy sales guy have really put me off optical express.
In sum, I have stuck to daily contacts and will consider lens implants if I am ever unable to wear dailies. I guess to add to this, I am a foreigner that has been to ophthalmologists before (not in the UK) so I am inevitably comparing all of this to my experience at home.
