I'm sure it filtered down from my dad, but he typically got my mum to deal with it. He was born in 1943 into very poor circumstances. He often told me he was the only kid at school who had proper shoes. My dad ended up being very successful, but his childhood experience kept him, and us, very grounded. He died in 1997, aged 54. I miss him every day.
