If you are nervous then the easiest is to take a train that stops in Barassie (not all of them do, and the ScotRail app is really reliable and easy to use). The train station is right by the beach so if you come from Glasgow you go over the railway bridge and come out in a street called Hillhouse Gardens.

You follow that until you see the sea, it's only a couple of minutes. A few hundred meters on your left is Troon which is a cute little town with a few nice cafes and a really famous chippy by the harbour where you can usually see seals, if you are interested I can tell you more.

On your right is the beach that goes for miles, all the way to Irvine if you want to walk that far. Sometimes there are s few streams (but you can walk around them without getting your feet wet but I think taking off your shoes and going barefoot is best) but otherwise it's just sand. You can see that if you change your Google maps to terrain.

You can either turn around and go back to Barassie or walk all the way to Irvine. You can't miss the train station there because there is a river that means you have to turn right and follow that road until you see the train station to your right, opposite a big ASDA. There are a few really nice cafes and restaurants along that river, Gro is fabulous

Hope that gives you a better picture, happy to give more details if you like. Hope you have an amazing time.
