How much do you (or they) want to spend?

* Floorboards can be lifted and sound deadening added.
* Securing/Replacing floorboards can help too
* Carpets with a good underlay will help more
* Overlay (e.g. engineered wood) with sound deadening underlay will make things less bad, but carpet is still king

For a quick fix, sprinkle some talc around the loss floorboards, then word it in. Vacuum up the excess. The talc should act as a dry lubricant.

Sound can be weird. If you can work with them to figure out were you sound loudest, than can help focus efforts.

They can, of course, also add sound deadening to their ceiling if they want.
