I save compassion for people who deserve it. Homeless people living on the street have a shit lot in life and we need more social programs to get them off the street.
Junkies though, are a totally different breed. They're violent thieves who would steal from their own family rather than go without their drug of choice, usually heroin.
It's really easy to feel compassion for them when you aren't dealing with them every single day. When your mum wants you to walk her to her car after visiting you on a tuesday night because she doesn't feel safe, and you know she actually has a point, will you still feel sorry for those poor souls that break into cars, leave dirty needles lying around for children to find, and mug frail old women? |
