There's nothing I can say right now that you would really agree with though.

The problem is that there is no solution. I think we need better social care programs to help people out but we can't ignore the unfortunate reality that some people are hardwired to reject help. They are just built that way and nothing is going to change them.

* You can give them a support group and they'll abuse or ignore it.
* You can give them friends and companions and they'll steal from them.
* You can give them medication and they'll go collect it just to sell it for cheap heroin.
* You can give them guides and therapists who they'll ignore and resist.
* You can give them high quality heroin and they'll sell it for low quality heroin because it lasts longer.
* You can lock them in a room for 6 months and the first thing they'll do when you let them out is go look for some heroin.

Any asset, service, tool, or support you give them will be exploited to the best of their ability to get them more heroin regardless of the damage caused along the way to anyone or anything else.

Now I honestly wouldn't mind their existence if they'd quietly fuck off and do their heroin in a private, safe place and dispose of their paraphernalia responsibly. But they don't do that. Instead they attack people, damage and steal property, and leave dirty needles in public places that risk injuring animals and children. Try explaining to a 5 year old why he now has hepatitis.

, is that if you woke up tomorrow morning naked, in a country where you don't speak the language, in a completely new body with no form of ID, within 12 months you would have a roof over your head and a steady income. Maybe not living the dream, but you would have stability. They wouldn't. The difference between them and normal folk. Their failure is predestined.
