Every building will differ, I was suggesting this as others have commented that the type of flat mentioned by OP is not necessarily sound proofed - and if they are looking for a flat over a house, then reducing the number of neighbours is one way to limit sound. And many cottage flats have 4 in a block, so you only have one neighbour above or below. and one to the side - where’s bigger blocks may sandwich you in with neighbours.
