| Comment | Don't think there is an actual unanimous approach. Majority of my friends we'd always just split the bill but if I ever order something much more expensive eg steak I'd always offer more and vice versa so would friends. Equally because I'm not in a great financial position at the moment I just pay for my own, proper friends always understand this. I think you should decide what makes you feel the most comfortable - eg just paying for your own and stick to that. Any decent person won't care and you shouldn't have to offer any explanation.
