**Private health insurance for children? What if people can’t afford private health care - no treatment?**

No entry.

**Health insurance isn’t straight forward either. If people have it - it doesn’t cover every bit of treatment. Also if someone has a pre-existing condition - many insurance companies won’t cover the treatment, etc or they will ramp up the premiums up.**

If you have a long-term pre-existing condition, especially a serious one? no entry.

**Scenario: someone injured there leg and needs surgery otherwise they will forever walk in pain & wont be able to work in construction industry any longer. They have insurance but can’t afford the excesses for the treatment & thus can’t get treatment.**

Sorry, I don't understand this bit, if someone can afford health insurance, why wouldn't they be able to cover the cost of the excess?

[Australia Medicare](https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/servicesandsupport/overseas-visitors-and-healthcare) \- their version of the NHS when it comes to overseas visitors.

[Canada](https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=424&top=16) as well.

"free" health care costs a fortune, they don't have an unlimited amount of money, look up NICE - I believe they are the body that decides on what drugs are available on the NHS and if they are "cost-effective".

Now I will backtrack a little on what I said before about non-UK citizens - If you are a medical professional working in the NHS - eg - Doctor, surgeon or a nurse etc, you would be able to use to NHS.

I would also read up on [GS India](https://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWCA/Civ/2015/40.html)

**Scenario:**

You have a long-term health issue that costs a fortune to treat, someone from overseas turns up in the UK with the same health issue and treatment for it isn't available in his country but the NHS only have enough money/drugs to cover one person, who should get treatment?
