I rarely go out for dinner any more. Part of it is, I really like cooking, I spend all day thinking about dinner and I make big multi-dish feasts on the weekends, and I can't remember a meal in the few years that I've had in a café or mid-market restaurant that I couldn't cook better at home. I'm not talking about 'fine dining' but that's like a big birthday experience (someone gave me vouchers for The Kitchin for my 40th and I'll still be thinking about that meal when I'm 80)

Saying that, the one reliably good thing about eating out is being able to concentrate on the company and have someone else do all the washing up. That's a treat but I'm not paying £50 upwards for it.
