Firstly, it’a a regulated profession if that counts for anything.

Secondly, it’s not just the product, but also the general advice and to guide you through the process. You’re not beholden to them, you could easily search on comparison websites if you doubt the choices put forward to you or speak to someone else if you want another opinion.

Thirdly, for what it’s worth, an independent whole of market broker is still better than one from a financial institution who can only offer you stuff from their financial institution.

From what I gathered, the mortgage bit didn’t actually make my guy much. I think these people get most of their income by selling insurance products or doing more complicated applications. Not sure though.
