It does happen for clubs, but I've never heard of that happening for a gig.

It was the venue owner's promotion company who put on Xiu Xiu last night so it would have been in house staff doing the ticket sales, and it would be really out of character for them to refuse folk entry (I used to run events there and the staff were absolutely amazing).

If it was the bouncers, well, they're run by a separate company so they're not super answerable to.

Worst case you can write to Broadcast and say you weren't allowed to buy a gig ticket by their bouncers on the basis of "no singles". Might not actually achieve anything but given they were the promoters and presumably would have liked to sell more gig tickets, nothing to lose.
