| Comment | i always felt tentative about whether i wanted to go there. i liked the politics and occasionally supported them online but the way they went about these politics exacerbated problems rather than helped them (like protesting against the police yet attracting their attention in govanhill, which is a huge no-no given how many poc we have here). the handcuff key incident was my tipping point and i just see them as people who caused problems more than minimised them. they weren’t very accepting of criticism either even when it was coming from other jewish, trans or queer people.
their owner (morgan holleb) ran an organisation that was meant to support men and nonbinary victims of sexual and domestic abuse (not your fault). i thought that was fantastic of him until i found out that one of the people at his organisation confided in him privately about his abuse. holleb then went up to the person accused of abuse at a public event and punched him so hard he had a migraine, basically outing his victim given that holleb ran the organisation. he then issued a nonapology on facebook and around that point he left. the organisation still lives on. there’s more strange shit that group have done but i’ll spare you the essay (or as the rumour has it the letterbox). |
