What will happen is that the old (potentially stale) connection will be ditched and on the reconnect a new negotiation occur, rather than the old one be assigned again. For a VM engineer to rock-up would require numerous, sustained complaints from customers.
I have had to do this numerous times over the years with VM and have gotten a new IP each time (dynamic DNS detected the change and updated).
Never needed to do it with basic copper. Although networks checks did detect a dodgy socket (all hail Zen for getting one of you folks out within the hour).
Now I'm on fibre, I've not needed to do a thing. Although over not been on fibre long. |
