Bit late to this sorry. I'm at Strathclyde doing my PhD, and I done my masters here as well in the engineering department, albeit in EEE. I done some of the civil eng classes during the masters and I really enjoyed them - they had a big practical focus and the staff were dead nice.

I'd recommend Strathclyde because I know the engineering faculty is solid and has hunners of industrial links which they encourage you to make use of - a lot of the software houses and engineering companies in Glasgow are heavily populated with Strathclyde graduates, though I can't attest to the quality of Glasgow's department.

The most important thing is you're doing the course which actually appeals to you most in terms of content, that's ultimately what matters. No point doing a course you like the sound of less because the uni is fancier - the name won't matter that much once you've got experience.
