I'm not really fond of Banksy per se - yeah I am a bit snooty about him in an annoying way - but a big eye-catching show like this is great for Glasgow. It is incredibly frustrating how infrequently GOMA puts one on.

Whenever I visit another city - London obviously, but Edinburgh, Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle, and then anywhere abroad - the first thing I do is check out what exhibitions they have on. I even travelled to Cumnock at the weekend to check out the Eduardo Paolozzi exhibition at the Baird Institute for fuck's sake.

Glasgow, for at least the last 10-15 years I've been living in it, is far and away the worst city I've ever been to for major art exhibitions. There are a lot of artists here, and there are a lot of decent small-scale things going on. But in terms of big exhibitions that really make an impact - and yeah, get the tourists in - Glasgow has been a disaster, and GOMA is really to blame for a lot of that. Such a wasted space most of the time. So I am amazed and excited by the existence of this show - even if I'm unlikely to go to it myself - and I hope it bodes well for the future.
