B&M usually sells fairly decent spray primer for not that much.
Dunno if you have used spray paint on MDF before? It's worth sealing before you paint. Otherwise the finish can be a bit hit or miss. You can do it with any old PVA glue if you want to do it on the cheap (which you can usually also pick up for a few quid in B&M).
