Most japanese absolutely hate "otaku culture" and otaku is actually a pretty derogatory term in Japanese.
It means "shut in" and feels sorta like "basement goblin" when you call someone an otaku.

But, japan has an absolute mahoosive population. Get enough cunts in one place and the number of basement goblins reaches critical mass. Might as well make a pretty penny off them.
