Comment | It's inverted snobbery. There traditionally was also a thing called the 'Kelvinside accent', though it's no longer as pronounced as it one was. But I had neighbours, born in the 1920s, who spoke it beautifully.
Not everyone born and raised in Glasgow has the "Glasgow Keelie" accent, but those who don't are often regarded as somehow fake or less Glaswegian. I've always been called a "toff", and I didn't even go to Uni. |
