When you say morning tea, are you meaning just a breakfast to have with tea or kind of like an afternoon tea but in the morning? It's not likely to be something you would have with the latter, but most cafes do hot rolls (filling is hot, not the roll) and you can have tea. Most common filing is a square sausage (Lorne on some menus), although I like bacon, black pudding and fried egg.

You are right that they are quite dry, and they aren't commonly eaten alone, you get your moisture from the fillings. They have a distinctive flavour and add some great texture.

Out of curiosity, where are you visiting from? Just asking as it might help in adding context to what might be a difference to a normal breakfast food wherever you are.
