This is from a good 20 years ago when I was at uni. We’d been at the pub (not an overly heavy night as lectures in morning, but still quite pissed) and got the one of the last underground’s from urea road into town to go out various ways home. There were about 10 of us. Being a bit noisy but just towards each other laughing and talking. We got on what appeared to be an empty carriage and carried on. After a few mins we spotted a little old lady down the other end of the carriage looking a bit scared of us (she looked about 80+, small, and had had a nice quiet carriage until so loud mouthed drunk students came bustling in. Not surprised she was a bit intimidated). One of my mates went over to her, sat down and asked if she wanted a chip from his late night visit to the chippy. She started laughing and took some. When we saw her laugh the rest of us joined them and we all chatted. She got off smiling a few stops later

I know that if she’d refused and still seemed scared my mate would have reassured her (he has the gift of the gab in a way that would have worked, even when tipsy) and rejoined us getting us.

Just makes me smile when I think of it. Apparently the offering of fried food from an eloquent by slightly sloshed gentleman can break the generational ice on the underground
