Hi I’m a counselling psychotherapist, I always love it when clients come in and say what they want and don’t want! For example- “I don’t want you to just sit and listen, I want to move forward, I feel stuck”. If you can share any feelings that’s always really helpful. A first counselling session is usually a bit different to a typical session, you’ll cover confidentiality, scheduling, and discuss goals for therapy. As they are a charity they will likely only be able to provide between 6 and 12 sessions, it’s good to talk about what you’d hope to get out of that and they can tell you in what ways they can help. Just having a space where it’s just about you can be really helpful too, an hour a week to focus on yourself and have that ally in a professional therapist. I hope you click with this therapist and find it helpful :)
